Speaker

Phillip Covell

I am always enthusiastic about speaking, joining panels at industry events, or appearing as a guest lecturer, particularly on topics related to the business of Film, TV, and Media.

FOCUS 2017

I was invited to join the panel discussion, “Show me the money… after Brexit,” where I shared insights drawn from firsthand experience. On June 24, 2016, as markets reacted to the Brexit referendum, AVTN NewsNet247’s budgets faced a £1 million shortfall due to the Pound's sharp decline. This financial impact led to the inclusion of Amsterdam in our network proposal, accounting for £26.3M of the construction budget and £42.5M in the first year of transmission, rising to £52.3M by year four. These insights provided valuable context for the panel discussion and the broader conference audience.

IBC 2022

It was a profound honor to participate in IBC 2022 during the ‘Changemakers’ sessions, where I spoke with Jaisica Lapsiwala about ‘Support for Ukrainian Media Professionals’ alongside Irena Gruca-Rozbicka of ‘Filmmakers for Ukraine.’ Our discussion highlighted the collective efforts to support media professionals affected by the conflict.

FOCUS 2022

At FOCUS 2022, I joined another panel in support of ‘Filmmakers for Ukraine’ as a joint recipient of the IBC Special Prize. As a representative of the group ‘Support for Ukrainian Media Professionals,’ I discussed our collaborative efforts to assist those in Ukraine.

BOX Fest Conference 2024, ‘The AI Edition’

In 2024, I participated as a panellist in Boxer Systems annual BOX Fest Conference, ‘The AI Edition.’ The event focused on the transformative impact of AI on the Film, TV, and Media industries. During the discussions, I contributed insights on the future of content creation, distribution, and the potential ethical and legal considerations of integrating AI technologies.
