Broadcasting
Throughout my career, I have been deeply involved in delivering production services, equipment, and personnel for both studio-based programming and outside broadcasts, meeting the diverse demands of international broadcasting.
As CEO of the broadcast news startup AVTN NewsNet247, I led the strategic planning and execution of establishing an international news network with bureaus in London, Amsterdam, New York, and Singapore. This included overseeing all aspects of news and factual programming, from long-form documentaries to short news segments, as well as managing studio setups, outside broadcasts, location crews, equipment logistics, and more. I bring this extensive knowledge and experience to every project or business I engage with, ensuring high-quality execution and strategic insight.
Satellite, Cable & IPTV Distribution
Experienced in planning for C-Band and Ku-Band transponder service and bandwidth for UHD, HD and SD distribution to Satellite, Cable and IPTV head-ends, dealing direct with a number of key satellite distribution services and platforms to achieve a worldwide reach across 28 satellites.
In addition to channel distribution services, I am familiar with both permanent and temporary links between locations and studios, and land-links between studios and satellite stations, as well as mobile uplink equipment.
IPTV, OTT & Streaming
Familiar with a broad range of IPTV, OTT and Streaming service providers, distribution platforms and support companies, their specifications and applications, and the nuanced differences between them.
Developed the specification for and budgeted IPTV, OTT and streaming capabilities and requirements of AVTN NewsNet247 liaising with all key suppliers.
Markets
What's your target market, and what do you know about it? Knowing your market and its demographics are of key importance to your project or business. Whether in the sphere of Channels, Networks and Platforms, or Features, TV Drama, Documentary, News and Factual another key question is what are the topics that are of interest to your audience? The better your research and data the better you will know your market. I am highly knoweldgeable in this area, and at AVTN NewsNet247 we became very adept at rapidly identifying the scope of markets.
SVOD, AVOD & FAST
What's your strategy and which one is right for your channel or platform? These are the same questions we faced at AVTN NewsNet247 - In actual fact, as is becoming the trend at present, our strategy called for a tiered approach addressing AVOD, SVOD, and FAST, the latter before the term had really been phrased, to enable us to reach as much of our target audience as possible. I can bring this experience and strategic viepoint to your project or business as well.
Audience Reach, Growth & Subscriptions
I have led planning to access leading distribution platforms for worldwide regional distribution with a target of achieving a global reach of 541 million homes, via up to 126 platform providers, across 28 satellites. I am more than familiar with the minefield of varying terms for access between platforms. Accurate household reach, audience demographics and realistic targets for audience conversion as a percentage of reach are key to a successful distribution strategy. If you are dependent on subscriptions, then driving growth, audience retention and minimising churn are again of key importance.
Playout Systems
Relationships with a number of Playout and Channel-in-a-box providers, including Cinegy, PlayBox Neo, Vizrt, among others.
Responsible for the playout strategy for AVTN NewsNet247.
IP Radio
The inclusion of IP Radio in the AVTN NewsNet247 proposal was based on a talk radio model, utilising the audio from the TV news channel. Four radio studios were budgeted for, at a cost of £250K each, projected to generate year one revenues of £12M rising to £28.15M worldwide by year four. I can bring this knowledge and planning to your own radio projects.
