MKI Elemack Spyder Dolly Restoration

  • Pictured below are photographs of a MKI Elemack Spyder Dolly Restoration.

  • The MKI distinction comes from the presence of the U-shaped wheel casting and single wheel on each leg. There is a single brake shoe that winds in from the side.

MKII Elemack Spyder Dolly in closed crab mode. This is the most compact leg and wheel configuration. Presented in 'ARRI Grey' and Black. Padded seats for additional comfort on those cold winter days. The 150mm Bowl fitting was sourced from Prosup.

The rubber footpump pedal was changed for a delrin replacement. A delrin cap was also made for the pump housing which was past its aesthetic best. Also visible on the right leg is a replacement gear change lever in stainless steel, made from two parts.

Note, that the early column castings for each section were replaced with castings from a later dolly, purchased from a vendor with lots of scrap parts. the front left leg casting in this picture shows that it had at some point been broken and re-welded.

Close-up of a MKI Elemack Spyder wheel casting with single wheel. The rubber on the original wheels was sadly badly deteriorated. A suitable replacement wheel was sourced from BIL Group, and is similar to those used by a number of other manufacturers. The leg castings on this dolly exhibited no cracking or damage where the lifting handle adjoins the casting.
